The Living List: January 2018

Sooooo,

As I told you last month - I do not like the name "News Letter" but I think I like this name.

The Living List!

 .... I think I like it.

     .... ION KNOW!

           .... Well, it may stick.

I suppose I am naming this the The "Living List" because I will add new events through the month as they come - so check back.

But also -

If you ain't attending, you ain't LIVING!

HA!

Of course, as always, I am always up for suggestions.  If you can think of something better - let me know.

January 5th - Poetry and Absinthe with the Worm Wood collective.  - OFFICIAL EVENT DESCRIPTION -The Wormwood Collective Kansas City (Poetry & Absinthe) joins forces with Kansas City Goths to fire off 2018 with a unique and exciting double feature event at your neighborhood friendly Prohibition Hall. The Wormwood Collective presents Poetry & Absinthe: Beginnings in the basement level. how old were you when you first starting performing spoken word and what was your expression like? what inspired you? we're going to take it back to the beginning and share some of our oldest, rawest poetry, and as always, everything else as usual is acceptable on the mic. we will also continue celebrating the Winter Solstice and the energy it brings to us. we proudly welcome a variety of performances like musical acts (please ask about what is acceptable if you're in doubt), prose, comedy, spoken word burlesque performances, freestyle and slam, side-show performances.. basically anything we can legally get away with as long as words are incorporated. hosted by Will Superior (Guillermo Sanchez).

Afterwards, stomp with us at The Night Arcade starting at 9PM, an event full of excitement and untold wonders, where you never know what terror lurks in the dark. There will be DJ's. Dancing. Fire. January 6th - Dialogue in Color - Join me as I perform with other prestigious poets for this phenomenal project.  Artist Glyniesha Johnson is a Visual artist with works installed at The Writer's Place.  Poets have been commissioned to write pieces in response to her works. In turn - she has created a work in response to our writings.   - OFFICIAL EVENT DESCRIPTION - Through the language of collage and drawing, Glyneisha Johnson recreates familiar domestic Black spaces of color. She explores the notion of collage as a metaphor to describe the dislocated, collaged nature of Black history due to colonialism. TWP invited seven local poets to write poems in response to her work. These poems will be displayed next to each collage. During the reception poets Glen North, Sherri Purpose Hall, Jermaine Thompson, Anne Gatschet, Chell Navarro, Jessica Ayala, and Jose Faus will read their poems.
